David Gatheral –
Perfectly good bat for when a beginner decides he/she wants to commit to the game. The bat is a good weight for either junior boy or adult though my 11 year old daughter still prefers the weight of a smaller blade. The rubbers are grippy enough to grab the ball and change its spin. The 1.5mm sponge is soft enough to let ball dwell on the rubber and also to catapult it out. Its a massive step up from the Dunplop bats etc. in high street shops. Choose from straight, flared or anatomic handles. I find juniors tend to prefer flared and a lot of the adults like the anatomic version. The handle is on the big side – but nothing a junior couldn’t use comfortably.
I haven’t tried many other bats out. This one was recommended by another coach and I like it a lot. I have had a got with both Palio Master and Palio Expert and this bat’s rubbers are better and the blade and handle definitely feels better. After a while you could easily replace the rubbers with ones with more speed and spin. The blade could easily last a player for the first 3-5 years of his career, if not more.
Recommended for beginning players once they know they are going to keep with the sport.
